So the kids are out of school and it's time to hit the road. Summer marks the official start of the vacation season and it's time for fun. One of my favorite vacation destinations is Disney World. I absolutely love everything about the House of Mouse.
My daughter and I visit this magical world about every two years. When it's time to get ready for Disney, I plan extensively. I do an extreme amount of research on what are the best days to go to which parks, I map out what's the best time of day to ride Space Mountain and plan where we are going to eat each meal. Each day on our vacation is usually planned out from the time we get up until the time we go back to the hotel and pass out. Some would call this a little extreme. However, I called it getting the most bang for my buck.
I have such a great time when I'm in Disney World. It just brings the kid out in me. One day when we were in line at Animal Kingdom, I looked over at my daughter and she looked a little miserable. I asked what was wrong. She told me she was tired. I couldn't understand why she didn't have extra energy. After all this place was magical. I thought that maybe Tinker Bell's fairy dust contained a little extra energy. She was having a good time, but she was tired and worn out.
Vacations are supposed to be fun and "relaxing". Our time in Disney was fun. However, it wasn't balanced. I was trying to impose the same over-scheduling strategies that I used in our daily life to our vacation. I didn't really begin to understand how she was feeling until I got home. By that time, I was feeling the exhaustion that she was feeling when we were in Florida. Even on vacation I didn't have balance.
I was so focused on trying to maximize the fun that I forgot about what vacations are all about. The whole purpose of going on vacation was to relax and get out of the rat race. I was focusing on the fun, but I had completely forgotten about the relaxing part.
Vacations give us an opportunity to connect with our family and friends. It's a time to forget about work and enjoy a change in scenery. Even while we are away on vacation we should be striving for a sense of balance. Take your time and enjoy yourself. You don't have to do it all on one trip. After all when you get back home you shouldn't need a vacation from your vacation.

Enjoying read your vacation post. It's fun. Warm regards.

Wow can I relate to needing a vacation from our vacation. I am glad that I am not the only one who has realized I was making our family vacations more a chore than a vacation.

Michelle, this year I promised my daughter that when we go back to Diseny, I'll take it easy. It's going to hard for me to resist, but it's necessary. So, I have mentally been preparing myself to take it easy. You never know, I migh just come back relaxed :) Thanks for stopping by.
